The general rule among professional sports bettors is to bet the spread favorite and the over early (halftime bets) and bet the underdog and under late. This is even truer for the Super Bowl. The reason for this is that amateur bettors tend to bet the favorite. This drives the odds up for the favored team creating uneven odds. Underdogs of more than 7 points historically win frequently enough to produce statistically significant profits on an underdog bet.
